So I know now, at my first post I was 5 weeks and 2 days. That makes me 8 weeks today. Since the first post, I've had two appointments. The first one was July 16th, it was, as expected, an uneventful appointment. They draw blood and answer any questions you might have - that's it. Nick went b/c I had no idea what they were going to do, they could have done anything! I got the results 2 days later and my betas (measuring HCG in your blood) was 80,904 - very strong.
At this doctor (a new one for me) they do an ultrasound very early to try to determine how far along you are. This made me happy because I knew going by my last period was not going to be accurate for my situation. I suspected I was 6 or 7 weeks so that would have put me at 8 weeks for the ultrasound and often that's the earliest you can hear the heartbeat (earlier you can just see it).
The ultrasound was today and of course, I was nervous and when you're nervous, everything takes forever - we waited about 1/2 hour in the exam room! The doctor (1 of 2 in the practice) was really nice, he explained everything and kept asking if we had more questions.
Right when he turned it on we heard the heartbeat almost immediately and I squeeled "YAY!" (they probably thought they had a teenage mom on the table!) It was such a relief to hear the heartbeat. Nick agrees, he wishes they had let us hear it longer. We also saw the little heartbeat blipping away on the screen. So cool. The heartbeat was 150 which I hear is very good. Thank you God. He does hear and answer prayers.
The doctor looked around, making sure there was just one (there's a very real possibility there could have been two in there due to family history). I would have loved that but love even more having one strong one in there! Then he finished his measurements and printed our little nugget's picture! The doctor was sure to tell us that we should still be cautious until 12 weeks but that hearing the heartbeat is a big milestone.
Nick says he's very excited but it still doesn't feel real, his co-worker says it didn't feel real for him until his son was born! We'll see about that!
God willing, we'll have a baby on (or around) March 3, 2010!
I'll try to post a the ultrasound picture if I can ever figure out how to scan...
